HARDY & NANCE STUDIOS
In 1863 the Paris Salon, then the staple of esteemed academic art refused two-thirds of the entries presented to them for their major annual show. There was such an outcry that Emperor Napoleon invited these ‘rejected’ artists to exhibit their works in a different part of the Palace of Industry. In 2010, Houston Artist, Emily Sloan, hosted the first ‘Rejects’ show at Gallery M-Squared. Sloan has kindly passed the torch on to Stäcy Smith and Claire Richards at Hardy & Nance Studios. Knowing Lawndale’s “BIG SHOW” to be one of the major art shows in Houston annually, we invite those “rejected” from the Big Show to participate in our own “Salon Des Refuses.”
